I'm in-between family visits and just spent 1/2-hour testing-out my large new [old] hand cove planer. While I still need an electric router and table for various upcoming cuts, a router bit to accomplish what I need to do this large cove moulding cut would be over $100. So, this old-fashioned way is a good alternative. I tested it out using my new vise and a piece of 2X4. Made a nice cove cut using the cheeks of the vise as a fence. Will need to glue several walnut lumber pieces together to get the desired thickness. Then, will run through the table saw to form the proper angle. This important moulding joins the base to the waist and the waist to the top. Needs to look great! In less than an hour, my grandkids will be here and I will be camp councilor for over 2 -weeks as they stay with us. Wish me luck! See pic below. Note the concave cut in the 2X4. Click to enlarge.
