Yay!! I made it through the day without a shop accident! I was able to get all four of the dial door pieces cut out in preparation for glueing the lap joints that will hold it all together. These joints look easy but they are not. Should look good when completed. Here are the steps on the dial door from here:
- glue the lap joints
- thoroughly sand the door
- router the inside 1/2" rabbets to hold the glass [this will be tricky]
- use a 1/4" round-over bit to router the remaining outside and inside edges
- test install the two door hinges
- finish sand the door
- apply oil to the door
- wax the door
- go back to the antique store to buy one of the old pictures with antique wavy glass
- Take the door and wavy glass to our local glass store to have the glass cut to size
- mix putty [to walnut color] and apply putty to hold the glass in place
- install the two hinges that the door hangs and sits on
- install the dial door
