Tonight I saw on eBay a clock that had an interesting corner joint. My original thought was to use a 45-degree bevel [miter] for the corners. And I still may. But will certainly consider, and test, using a corner joint similar to that used on the base of the grandfather clock shown in the photo below. Several options on this. The first is to rip a 45-degree piece off of a square stock and wedge it in using biscuits. The second, is to use a router with a birds-mouth bit. I'm going to test the first option after I get my table saw setup.
