I was a little intimidated about getting back to the clock-build. It has gone well, so far, and I wasn't even sure where I left off! So, I spent some time this morning playing catch-up and creating a plan for the next-steps on the hood. I've decided to tackle the arches that go over the clock dial and sit on the top of the hood. There are 7 of them with six of them being sandwiched together in the front, and one more sitting on the back. After I get the arches ready, I will work on all of the cuts needed on the hood side pieces. Then, I'm going to spend January seeing how far I can get. So stay tuned!
My first task today, after creating a plan, was to glue the pieces that came off of arch #2 as I was making the curve cuts. No fun as it was a puzzle figuring out where they went. Then, I made the two router cuts on arches #5 and #6. Very tricky as these curved cuts make up the intricate design on these most-forward pieces. I was quite concerned that I could have another blow-out. If I had, then it was back to making new arch blanks. But it went quite well! I still need to make some angle cuts at each end. These ends will join the skirt side pieces. But more on that later. Finally, I included a pic of 2 of the bird houses that my son-in-law made in my workshop around Thanksgiving. These were Christmas presents to us! Here are some pics below.
